Re-Up Gang vs G-Unit : Who got the better mixtape?

As a chronic mixtape fan, today 2-4-08 was Super Monday, with 2 high profile mixtapes dropping around the same time on Super Bowl Weekend.. We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3 and G-Unit Return of the BodySnatchers...Coming off one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history with the NY Giants beating the flawless New England Patriots, it seems to be a 'upset' in the mixtape world also.

In my opinion, right off top, I'm feeling G-Unit Body Snatchers alot better than The Clipse WGI4C..

Now in the mainstream world, 50 Cent would be the Patriots, but in the mixtape world..ironically 50 and Unit would have to be the 'underdogs' in the sub genre of mixtape in the current climate, with The Clipse coming off an All-Time Classic mixtape We got it 4 Cheap Vol. 2. While it's ironic that 50 is the godfather of the current artist driven mixtape, while he has moved on artist like T.I., Young Jeezy, Joe Buddens and Lil Wayne..(ESPECIALY Lil Wayne) turned the mixtape into their artistic playground and has been the reigning kings of this sub-genre. The past few years, 50 has been focused on the official and retail releases, and hasn't really impacted mixtapes in a good minute.

Not that WGI4C Vol 4 is bad..not at all, and apparently, the version that was released so far is the 'pre DJ Drama' version.
This thing with me on WGI4C is that is sounds kind of unfinished and a little bit uninspired..and compared to the high adrenaline of Vol 2, kind of lacks energy in places..To me it's just not hitting me like Vol 2 which is a all-time classic mixtape, or even Vol.1 for that matter.. that impact is not there in the songs on the one.

Bodysnatchers in contrast, sound like a championing returning to true mixtape form for G-Unit. 50 Cent's ear and choice of beats is unparalled in the game today.. and it shows here. Also, even though it's "just" a mixtape, 50 and the Unit's song crafting and writing is better also...and 50's understanding on how to make a song shows as clear as day on this mixtape..

It seems like 50 'dug in the crates' more when choosing beats, picking more intricate, diamond in the rough type tracks, and experimented alot more than The Clipse did. Some of the beat choices on WGI4C where coo and all, but beats like the Shawty Lo "Dey Know" has already been ran a train on in mixtape circles, even though it's probably the most go hard-ish beat out right now. By now I really don't want to hear NO version of Roc Boys....even if it's getting ripped..dope song.. but I'm not trying hear a beat I've heard all over radio and video on a mixtape, and 50, as the innovator of the modern mixtape as we know it today, understands that...and hits you with true, unexpected, raw uncut tracks...

Lyrically the The Re-Up Gang are more advanced than the G-Unit crew, but after awhile, you can kind of lose attention and the mixtape starts to lag without any type of change in the song, or interesting take from the artist, DJ, crew member or SOMETHING..Maybe that's where the finished DJ Drama version comes in at..WGI4C has sort of a "Make some songs and randomly throw em on a CD" feel to it, it doesn't glue together as a total project like the G-Unit tape...

We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3 is DEFEINTLY not bad at all, and it definitely is giving me my hip-hop fix during a dry period, like a dope mixtape supposed to do. It's just that G-Unit Bodysnatchers is just that much better..
