Re-Up Gang vs G-Unit : Who got the better mixtape?

As a chronic mixtape fan, today 2-4-08 was Super Monday, with 2 high profile mixtapes dropping around the same time on Super Bowl Weekend.. We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3 and G-Unit Return of the BodySnatchers...Coming off one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history with the NY Giants beating the flawless New England Patriots, it seems to be a 'upset' in the mixtape world also.

In my opinion, right off top, I'm feeling G-Unit Body Snatchers alot better than The Clipse WGI4C..

Now in the mainstream world, 50 Cent would be the Patriots, but in the mixtape world..ironically 50 and Unit would have to be the 'underdogs' in the sub genre of mixtape in the current climate, with The Clipse coming off an All-Time Classic mixtape We got it 4 Cheap Vol. 2. While it's ironic that 50 is the godfather of the current artist driven mixtape, while he has moved on artist like T.I., Young Jeezy, Joe Buddens and Lil Wayne..(ESPECIALY Lil Wayne) turned the mixtape into their artistic playground and has been the reigning kings of this sub-genre. The past few years, 50 has been focused on the official and retail releases, and hasn't really impacted mixtapes in a good minute.

Not that WGI4C Vol 4 is bad..not at all, and apparently, the version that was released so far is the 'pre DJ Drama' version.
This thing with me on WGI4C is that is sounds kind of unfinished and a little bit uninspired..and compared to the high adrenaline of Vol 2, kind of lacks energy in places..To me it's just not hitting me like Vol 2 which is a all-time classic mixtape, or even Vol.1 for that matter.. that impact is not there in the songs on the one.

Bodysnatchers in contrast, sound like a championing returning to true mixtape form for G-Unit. 50 Cent's ear and choice of beats is unparalled in the game today.. and it shows here. Also, even though it's "just" a mixtape, 50 and the Unit's song crafting and writing is better also...and 50's understanding on how to make a song shows as clear as day on this mixtape..

It seems like 50 'dug in the crates' more when choosing beats, picking more intricate, diamond in the rough type tracks, and experimented alot more than The Clipse did. Some of the beat choices on WGI4C where coo and all, but beats like the Shawty Lo "Dey Know" has already been ran a train on in mixtape circles, even though it's probably the most go hard-ish beat out right now. By now I really don't want to hear NO version of Roc Boys....even if it's getting ripped..dope song.. but I'm not trying hear a beat I've heard all over radio and video on a mixtape, and 50, as the innovator of the modern mixtape as we know it today, understands that...and hits you with true, unexpected, raw uncut tracks...

Lyrically the The Re-Up Gang are more advanced than the G-Unit crew, but after awhile, you can kind of lose attention and the mixtape starts to lag without any type of change in the song, or interesting take from the artist, DJ, crew member or SOMETHING..Maybe that's where the finished DJ Drama version comes in at..WGI4C has sort of a "Make some songs and randomly throw em on a CD" feel to it, it doesn't glue together as a total project like the G-Unit tape...

We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3 is DEFEINTLY not bad at all, and it definitely is giving me my hip-hop fix during a dry period, like a dope mixtape supposed to do. It's just that G-Unit Bodysnatchers is just that much better..

Hip-Hop is DEAD!!

That what the people yellin'..

Over the last couple months this been a hot topic, basically sprung on by Nas's album of the same name. It's been heated debates, arguments, dart throwing and near fights over this topic. The point is Nas is a genius either way cuz it ain't really no in-between, either you agree or disagree (unless you just don’t give a fuck about none of this shit regardless, which some people don't). At the end of the day though it's all points back to Nas and his album, which is the ultimate promotion. I didn't think Nas was gonna sell as much as he sold but him bring that controversy out has build the hype of his album.

With me, I disagree that its dead...its changes yes, but it's not DEAD..I'm talking to you right now and I'm hip-hop so it's not DEAD, I go outside, to the club, on the street, at school, in the store, on TV, on radio, when a person phone fuckin rings..I hear hip-hop..so it aint DEAD...and it's not DYING.

I got little cousins, little godsons, and all of that, they in to hip-hop and they not complaining one bit. They into the Lil Wayne's and Dipsets and all that just like I was into the Jay-Z's and W-Tangs...it's the same cycle..

Do I sit around listening to Chicken Noodle Soup? Hell Naw, but it's not really FOR me though..That’s a kid’s song for kids to have fun and wild out. That song today would be the equivalent to like a Kid-n-Play song back in the day or some shit like that. It's not MEANT to be taken so seriously!..People over think shit too much...

Old niggas be trying to hype they era up to much, they compare Rakim to Dem Franchize Boyz and say, "see, that’s why hip-hop is dead". That not even a far comparison of great vs. great, or even good vs. good. You purposely find the best of your side, and finds the worst of the other side and compare. Your whole argument doesn’t even make sense enough to be taken seriously when you do that.

Now I'm not saying it's not wack shit out there, but it’s always been good & bad, how else would you now if something was good if you didn’t; have the bad?

And I do know that the game is changing, and some people aint liking the change, mostly the ones who's getting weeded out because of the change.

I think the people is ready for some new shit also, new sounds, styles and faces, people recognize Jay-Z, Nas, Em, 50 and all those guys as icons, but the people seem like that want so new faces in the game now..

SO I don’t think it's dead, but I do realize its changes. I don’t agree with Nas but a recognize what he's doing, and the album is pretty dope too music wise.

Moms love to show me off of course, smiles every time my face is up in the Sour..um...Newspaper

Damn that didn’t rhyme..but you know the song..you get the idea..

Damn,
it’s been a long time shouldn’t of left you,
without a strong blog to rep too/

Imma start of by telling yall of what I can remember of super bowl week.

Basically I been waiting for this my whole life, A Super Bowl in my hometown like damn near in my own back yard, cuz I don’t live that far from downtown where everything is at..MANNNNN! if you heard me on Monday my voice was gone, I’m a little better today.

They had a premire party for the Discovery Channel Documentary that I did the music for on Monday

I went to the Detroit hip-hop party on Wednesday..

The Big Boi and Purple Ribbon OUtkast party on Thursday…(I..I…I…be… on it.. all night man I be on it all all day….. straight up.. pimp.. if you want me you can find it in the D..D!..D..D!)

The Diddy and Jeezy on Fri, and I coulda went to this After Party were LL Cool J was hosting but I aint go to that though, it was one of those dress up and grown and sexy parties. not that I aint grown and sexy, but I like the “come as you are” type of parties though more so though. It don’t mater if you Gaterd up and mink’ed down on up in there with the Timbs and hoodie, they just want you in the spot.

Saturday I was at the Good Life, at this point I don’t know who party it was and who was supposed to be there..

And on Sunday I went downtown with my Mom and Pops and we went to the Winter Blast and took pictures and ate a lot of food and stuff..and ohh yhea we the game was good too, good to See Bettis go out on top.

As far as who I seen, it was mostly football players and ESPN people, which was dope cuz I seen all the old legends like Joe Montana, Michael Irvin, and current people like Chad Johnson, and Clinton Portis, a lot of other niggas I’m forgetting cuz I’m thinking off the top of my head and everything was moving so fast and shit..but fun ass hell though I DO remember that…I got a couple pictures but hardly none of the turned out good with my drunk ass…

I didn’t see anybody who I coulda gave my beat CD to though, that what I was manly looking for..I mean I did at some of the parties but, only thing you can do is give it to them and bounce, hope they listen to it, it’s not like if you see them another time you get a chance to talk to them and pretty much game and hype your shit up. That’s like 80% of the battle right there..you gotta have the gift of gab to the point where they WANT to listen to your shit.

You can be on some shit like
“Lock yourself in a room doin' five beats a day for three summers
That's a Different World like Cree Summers/”

Anyhow though, I did get to meet Beyonce though…on Saturday, one of my closet homies had the hook up he’s a good ass caterer, professional cook and shit and the company he work for happened to be catering a party and she happened to be there. So, I had the hook up, shout out to they company I’ll plug them and let ya’ll know the name next blog cuz I cant; think of it right now..but hit them up for yall weddings and shit..

But yhea, she was cool as hell though, it was just her and her girl, and a bodyguard of course, but she was chillin’, I said whuttup, talk to her for a min. to see how she like Detroit. I can’t even lie though I was trynna act all cool and shit when talking to her, like it didn’t faze me but I was kinda geeked. I’m not afraid to admit that..but I put on a good game though. She was real cool though like I said..Wasn’t; on no bullshit.

It’s a lot of shit that went down but I don’t feel like typing all of it, I had fun though now its back down to earth

“Slip back to reality,
Opps, there goes gravity/”

If you wondering why I keep quoting all these lyrics cuz I kinda been thinking about that since Cam’ron went at Jay-Z recently and the “I’m not a writer I’m a bitter” track he did show all the lines Jay-Z ‘bit’, but Jay always says that he’s paying homage and it’s a difference,

I’m kinda torn, I think if you spit some shit and you presenting it off like it’s your own shit then yhea thats biting, but if you quoting some shit that obvious that everybody knows then It’s pretty sure that it’ more of paying homage type thing..I don’t know though it can go both ways…

Just like Scott Storch, he’s a biter, you know I Just now found out that he produced that Chris Brown “Run it”…Man I woulda lost hella money on that bet, I woulda swore up and down Lil Jon made that..And Jon tried to call him on it and Storch was on some “shut up and get on my level” shit. The Fuck!?! how you gonna take somebody shit, then talk shit to him about it. That shit made ME mad. Then he got the nerve to get mad cuz he ain’t up for no Grammy this year.

I respect Scott Storch, cuz I’m trying to get wher he’s at, so I def respect him, but wrong is wrong and thats some bold ass shit.

Speaking of Grammy’s: My prediction: Mariah Carry: 5 Grammies, she gonna clean up cuz she straight up KILT 2005, and the thing is everybody though her career was over too.

Mary J should get something too, but her album is really Just now coming out so I don’t know, Kanye is gona get something..But Mariah is gonna be the show this year.

Speaking of the show, Kobe Bryant 81 fuckin points…81 points!?!? In one game!?! That’s something I thought I NEVER see in my life time! And yes I do have the tape cuz that some I’m showing my kids when I have some one day.

And that next on my checklist
Super Bowl..check
NBA All star Game is next…hopefully I can try to go next year, wherever it’s at, it don’t have to be in Detroit, plus I get to travel

“Bad lil broad I ain't seen her in a minute
Since the All-Star game and I'm still tryin to hit it”

…..Gurl Gimme Dat!! Gurl gimme dat gimee dat dere..Gurl Gimme Dat!!

Man I pretty much made up for all the months I missed, doing this blog was a good idea at the time, but I can’t do this as frequently as a lot of other bloogers though..

Anyway, if you aint up on thaaaaaangs..

They doing a Documentary on the Discovery Channel about up and comers in Detroit hip-hop and how we trying to make it in the game. Ya boi did the musical score to it. So check it out, tell a freind they reporting about it in the top hip-hop sites that everybody go to for they news. Allhiphop.com and sohh.com, it’s also in the Detroit Free Press and they doing a article of it on Thurday. And I believe Metro Times and Real Detroit gonna speak on this too.

So look for it Discovery TIMES channel, its a sub channel of Discovery Channel they have like 3 different channels and Discovery TIMES is the one we are on, premier is Thursday @ 8 pm. So watch and support, the dude who made it won the Pulitzer Prize 2 times so it aint no bullshit…

Ill holla at ya’ll later..

THis shit will have you catching a case...

This music shit be fun most of the time, but some muthafucaks will have you a hop skip and a jump from fuckin them up on some nigga shit...

BUT anyway, what it dew!?

Man it been a minute since I wrote some shit down, but thatd a good thing been just trying to progess witht Bang on the Table...alot of big things coming up, I can't say too much right now, but things is looking good for the winter 05 into 06..

So the NBA has a dress code now.......ohh boy you know I can really go off on this bullshit...
SO now they tellin grown as men how to dress?, no more do-rags, jerseys, tims, fitted caps, coming to the game with your headphones on..ect...

Basicly the Allen Iverson rule..you might as well call it that...

Yhea I know, I Know, ya'll saying "We all have dress codes at your jobs, you cant work in a office dressed like you going to the club, look professional, blazy, blah..."

But these niggas is BALL PLAYERS, not NASA Sapce Scientist or some shit. they about to play a GAME..not save the world.

PLUS all this is telling you, is the NBA done got to hip-hop and 'niggafied' and now David Stern bitch ass is trying to 'clean' the game up for the conservative folks and the 'red states', in simpler term the middle age white folk who buy season tickets. Yo, I know this is a buisness, I'm trying to run one myself so I knwo all about suppy demand, or catering to to folks who acully come out of they pocket for you product, but don;t try to act like you doing it for the 'better of the leauge and game' and you want your players to look professional. All that talk is just bullshit, just say the NBA done got to black, and now you can;t sell it to 40 year old Beth and Todd in Iowa.

And it's not really helping the game like they think, becasue they slowly killing off the REAL fans. THe young black kids who look up to Allen Iverson, LaBron, Shaq and all them, not only because of they play, but becasue the look, dress, act and talk like them, they see somebody who they can relate with from a distance. Now that I think of it these white kids too....and it s slow kill cuz some of these young 11-12 year old kids gonna be your future ball players, and you gonna drive them away from the sport like what happened to baseball, now look at a baseball game now (if you can stay awake) it's all latino, dominican players and it aint hardly NO american born players, because the young kids here they past like 20 somthiing years been fuckin with football or basketball becasue it is a more 'appealing' sport.

Damn, I guess I did go off a little bit...

But yo look out for The Reworked Recipe Vol. 3, REMIXtape. It's coming out this month keep checking the website adn sign up to the mailing list to know...I got exclusive shit from David Banner thathe gave me to remix himself, original songs..and alot of suprises..
